Weekends
“Weekends are probably destined to be the ‘next big thing’ out of the Wham City/Baltimore area with their self-titled debut, Weekends. Here’s to hoping that they don’t get caught up in all of the hype that may or may not come to fruition, but I am definitely expecting a good amount of exposure coming their way. The duo of Brendan Sullivan and Adam Lempel create a sonic soundscape of noise-rock with minimal vocal presence. Likely comparisons come in the form of Ponytail and No Age. Two of my favorites are below. Oh and play it loud!” – Weekly Tape Deck
They're giving out there debut album for free right now so enjoy!

Electricians
Someone needs to build a studio out of empty garbage cans at the bottom of the Mariana trench
I went to highschool with two of the dudes in this band, haven't seen em in a bit but they just dropped their EP today and it's really wonderful. They kind of remind me of Olivia Tremor Control mixed with Silver Jews but not in a derivative kind of way, they definitely have their own sound and it sounds awesome haha. anyways, they're giving it out for free so fucking listen to it and then download it or vice versa (god I love bandcamp)!

A Brand New Life
So I ended up seeing this movie from Korea called A Brand New Life and it was wonderful, very sad and lonely but wonderful none the less. The director really did a great job at capturing the emotion these girls go through in being orphans and the way the movie came full circle in the end was just phenomenal, I'll have more later, gotta head out to the theater again.

Tribeca Film Fest
I just wanted to let everyone know I might not be posting to often this weekend as I'm covering the film fest and will be seeing movies all day and night. I'm gonna post little updates about how things were at the ends of each night hopefully but music will be lacking for the next couple days. Today I'm gonna catch either Sons of Perdition or Brand New Life, haven't decided yet and then check out the Hot Chip after party with Juan Maclean at Webster.

perfect emotion
I love when a song is used perfectly in a movie, Aphex Twin - Cliffs in the movie Manic is a great example of this. The way they use the song to capture the emotion of the scenes it's used in is stunning and is really a great testament to the mastery of the director. In actuality the overall use of music in the film is beautiful it's just that Cliffs really stands out in my memory, anyway you should just check it out for yourself because it's a great movie.
"Lyle Jensen is subject to sudden and violent outbursts, and he is committed to the juvenile wing of the Northwood Mental Institution. Several other youths are there with a variety of serious problems. Lyle interacts with other patients and staff on a human, and sometimes not so human level. The psychological problems of the patients also forms the fabric by which we see what's right with them, and what's wrong with the society that affects them. Written by Scott from Milwaukee, WI, USA"

Watch it here (you might have to let it load up for a bit first but it's well worth it)

New track/video from Foals
Between this and Spanish Sahara I am getting so excited for their new album
Fennesz
This is part of my recommended summer listening list; I recommend that you find some where peaceful, lay on your back, stare at the sky and just listen to the sounds around you for a minute also make sure no homeless people are gonna piss on your head. After you have done those things press play and let this album ride through from ear to ear, connecting somewhere in the yet undiscovered parts of your brain.

Four Tet - Fabric Podcast 033 (April 2010)
".In the first in our two part Four Tet podcast, Kieran Hebden takes a flick through his phenomenally stacked record collection to unearth gems from Jo R Lewis and Hyldon, aligning them with tracks by the criminally overlooked Crazy Bald Heads and STL. Also present are tracks from Burial and Miles Davis, two notable influences on the Four Tet sound."
Part 1
".The second part of Kieran Hebden’s fabric podcast finds him indulging as much of his deep experimentalism as much as his current ear for great music. Kicking off with Joy Orbison’s remix of his own ‘Love Cry’ Hebden careers through Victoria A Jazz and James Harper and on into James Holden and MJ Cole, never ceasing his impeccably diverse selection."

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is head down to the park or the beach with my ipod, find a nice secluded spot and then lose myself in some beautiful ambiance.

This looks soo damn good.
They already have the bands signed on with no cost up front but they need to reach $65,000 to have the show go on, so do us all a favor and buy a ticket or if you don't live near by donate some cash in return for a cool poster or t shirt!!!

I know...
I know that both LCD and Broken Social Scenes new albums have leaked but I just want to let everyone that I'm not going to be posting them here as I don't want any unnecessary attention, what with google shutting down blogs left and right. They are all over the place on the internet in all the usual spots and tons of unusual spots so I'm sure you'll have no problem finding em.

Random, somewhat drunkeness
Small Black is a phenomenal up and coming band, after tonight at the Music Hall of Williamsburg I really have to say that they have solidified their place in history as one of the best "Chill Wave" bands along with Washed Out. In recent times I have seen most of the bands associated with this rapidly developing genre and aside from Neon Indian a lot of these bands leave a lot to be desired live, Small Black and Washed Out though do this genre justice. I was lucky enough to catch their first night of tour and now their last night of tour... the change of comfort level is amazingly apparent. I really can't even begin to convey how good tonight's show was but there was something special in the air tonight and I am so happy that I was lucky enough to be there. These two bands have managed to capture a feeling that in my opinion has been missing in music recently, the feeling of a new/original sound/scene that has been sorely missed. Admittedly I'm a tad bit drunk and its 6 in the morning so my mind may be a bit clouded but I feel like I just witnessed an extremely significant musical moment.
Figures I left my camera at home tonight.

Bablicon
The decidedly experimental group is made up of Jeremy Barnes of Neutral Milk Hotel on drums, sound artist/engineer Griffin Rodriguez on bass, and composer and jazz aficionado Dave McDonell on multiple instruments. As an album, In a Different City is all over the map. Drawing on Captain Beefheart, metal, jazz, and even classical influences (the DePaul Symphony Orchestra guests on a track), Bablicon cooks up a wildly inventive, postmodern mélange of music

One my favorite albums to come out in 2003, used to listen to this all time while sitting around smoking. They also have a new album coming out this July so it makes this post a little less random.
