I love Rusko!!

Rusko makes such filthy tracks, here is his remix of Little Boots track Remedy, thanks to DiscoDust

little boots - remedy (rusko's big trainers remix)

I won!!!

So, I wasnt planning on going to the All Points West Festival and I wasnt really sad about it considering how horribly overpriced it is but I just won some VIP tickets thanks to RumBum which is pretty damn awesome. The line up is pretty decent, full of a lot of bands I'd like to see but wouldnt pay to see, also I havent seen Jay Z in a while and I'm very excited for Flying Lotus's set especially after the sound and time issues that plagued his set at camp bisco. Anyways I'll have a short little review of the fest along with some pics come monday or tuesday when its over. Thanks again to RumBum

Phoenix Fall US DATES!!!!

I'm really excited for this, I had to miss their show at Bonnaroo because the geniuses over at superfly decided to change Phoenix's set time and have it conflict with Phish. Also Fall Summer Stage shows are great, I love raging outdoor shows with a comfy hoodie on.

9/13 Denver, CO @ Red Rocks Amphitheatre – Monolith Festival

9/16 Los Angeles, CA @ The Greek Theater w/ Metric

9/17 San Francisco, CA @ The Warfield

Cinnamon Chasers

cinnamon chasers is the solo project of russ davies, nephew and son of ray davies and dave davies respectively, two founding members of the kinks. hot on the heels of legends such as giorgio moroder, vangelis and jean michel jarre as well as current synth wizards along the lines of alan braxe and junior boys, the london-based producer creates "a perfect blend of crisp electronics, pop based song structure and melodies with an 'indie' feel".

New Yo La Tengo!!!

Popular Songs

We have an old saying at Matador HQ, “the only thing predictable about Yo La Tengo albums is their high level of excellence and crazy amount of musical ground covered”. Trouble is, even if you believe we really have an old saying that unwieldly, it doesn’t really do justice in this instance. The new Yo La Tengo CD/2XLP/digital album ‘Popular Songs” (OLE 856-1,2) could be the bravest musical statement to date in a career full of ‘em. Recorded in Hoboken and Nashville in early 2009 with longtime associate Roger Mountenot, ‘Popular Songs’ finds the trio of Georgia Hubley, Ira Kaplan and James McNew at the height of their creative powers, fashioning an epic work that’s cooly confident as it is wildly adventurous.
Even for longtime followers of Yo La Tengo, the stylistic range encompassed on ‘Popular Songs’ is startling ; the band aren’t merely conversant with rock & pop subgenres stretching into the double digits, but their unselfconscious mastery of such is simply uncanny. Without absolving you of the sacred responsibility of listening to this album from start to finish (with no commercial interruptions!) , we can say with full confidence there are portions of ‘Popular Songs’ where a cursory needle drop reveals a band that doesn’t sound instantly like Yo La Tengo — or at least how you recognized them prior to now. In the words of Mike Wolf, “Yo La Tengo is not afraid. They walk confidently forward, into the unknown, hand in hand. And 12 (or 14) albums in, they may just be hitting their stride.” -Matador

Abrax

I really don't know too much about these guys, I believe this record came out in France around 1970 and its really mellow and funky with a small amount of some groovy disco mixed in. I highly recommend grabbing it now because it was fairly random that I came across this, what I believe to be a rip of the record, at least it sounds like.

need some souull???

I mean, if you don't like Sam Cooke you probably have no soul

BEMF 2009!!!!!

So, anyone who went to the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival last year knows this is an awesome little festival that has great music from a lot of up and coming local artists plus a couple big names as well, most of the lineup I have never heard of but that's whats so great about it. Also at the pre-party this past Friday a little birdie told me that a particular artist who is playing a free show earlier in the day will be the special guest of the night. For 25 dollars this is def the place to be ... unless of course you're one of those people who don't like to have fun.

get ur tickets!!

Hercules & Love Affair

Hercules & Love Affair have been selected by Renaissance to kick off their new Sidetracked mix series.

The new series will see Renaissance widen their remit more than ever before, with head honcho Geoff Oakes explaining that "Sidetracked has been developed to show the other side of bands from the electronic genre who can, and do, DJ. It's an opportunity to offer a diverse, unique series, which makes Hercules & Love Affair the more than perfect choice to kick-start matters." Even though band member Kim Ann Foxman also DJs, it's down to H&LA main man Andy Butler to construct the mix solo, but Foxman does however make a cheeky vocal inclusion, inciting Butler to "play some old disco." Butler doesn't play many new tracks in the mix, which focuses on classic house and disco, but there is room for one new Hercules & Love Affair track ("I Can't Wait") to make the cut. As well as the single disc mix, the package will also come with an unmixed CD featuring remastered versions of eleven of Butler's selections, which should come in handy for digital DJs looking for some classic '90s house.
