Be So True EP

Keepaway

This EP has really been growing on me the past few days, I was just blasting it on my way home from work and rocking out in my car when I decided to post it. Vocally its a bit similar to Animal Collective but the music is a lot more groove oriented with some real heavy bass lines, even venturing into a bit of dubbiness on 5 rings.

LOW MOTION DISCO

I can't believe I haven't posted this, I think I meant to do it last year some time and then never got around to it. Anyway this album is phenomenal, the name of the band and album is really a great description of the music, these songs kind of just chug along with these beautiful grooves and melodies. They trick you into thinking they don't go anywhere but still keep you extremely interested and keep your head moving with amazingly subtle yet very impactful changes, highly recommended.

Well Known Pleasures EP

Feel Good

So I was hanging out with my Dad last weekend just eating dinner, having some drinks and listening to great music and we were listening to a lot of "feel good" songs and talking about how some artists can just really capture the essence of happiness and euphoria in a song. The songs that no matter what just have this wonderful joyousness attached to them, so I was thinking about that today and this is probably my favorite feel good song ever made. Over time the amount I have listened to Zeppelin has really dwindled, I remember when I first went to college we listened to them non stop haha but regardless this song has always had a special place in my heart and is definitely my favorite track of theirs.

Emancipator - Safe In The Steep Cliffs

I want to preface this by saying that "Soon It Will Be Cold Enough" is one of my favorite downtempo albums ever made. Ok that being said Emancipators long awaited and I mean loooong awaited follow up "Safe In The Steep Cliffs" is a wonderful little piece of music. One thing you'll notice right from the get go is the proliferation of live instrumentation and it really adds an amazingly "full of life" layer to the soundscapes he produces. While the album sounds a bit similar to SIWBCE you can really notice the higher production value and the subtle intricacies that give this release a wider and more developed sound. There are also some more horns on this album that are a real welcome addition and add wonderfully to the overall melancholy vibe of the album. All in all this a real solid release from a really talented up and coming producer. I really hope he has plans to make it to New York soon because I hear only great things about his live show.

Death by cubicle

I know it's been touched upon in many articles, movies and from friends but please what ever you do in your life try and stay out of a cubicle. Sitting in this little square for 8 hours a day really kills me, luckily I have an end in sight with only a week and one day left but god every day when I come home I feel on the verge of death. I work in customer relations for a major airline and thankfully you can't actually call us haha you have to write an email, fax or letter but I swear I feel like John Coffey from the Green Mile, absorbing all this negative energy from people. In the AM when the alarm blasts my head open like an axe swung by Barry Bonds I am immediately filled with rage and I want tell all the children of the world that Santa Claus is a fraud just so they can be as miserable as me. I literally do the same thing over and over all day long with minimal variation, I think that's close to the definition of insanity or something and it just really kills my motivation to do anything positive or creative. Anyway I know "cry me a fucking river" sorry for the rant, long day and I forgot my headphones, I guess I shouldn't complain too much since at the end of next week I'll be able to buy my Shambala tickets. Oh and isnt that pic^ awesome haha

Tanlines

Nice fresh single from a new band with a lot of potential, the track starts with real infectious drums and bassline then some soaring synths ride in. I'm really liking this song and can't wait for their EP which is supposed to drop in April. Also included in this are two remixes of the song one being done by a favorite artists of mine, Memory Tapes !!!

Real Estate - Live On The Radio

mmm vinyl, this band kicks ass, I know I wasn't gonna pick favorites for 2009 but if I had to their full length would be my favorite of oh 9. Anyway these tracks came from two different radio shows they played one being at UMass and the other at Vasser College, only 300 copies of this were released and sold at shows on this past tour. So since most of us couldn't get our hands on the vinyl I deliver it you in almost all its glory, even though its lost a bit of its feeling since being ripped these recordings sound really great and they nail their songs.

Spaghetti Anywhere

I'm almost posting this for the amazing album artwork alone, there is something about the lighthearted personification of animals that really lifts my mood. Had another really strange dream last night that I may get into later but this EP was the perfect thing to put on when I awoke. Such a wonderful little indie folk/pop EP, brings a bit of nostalgia to your eye and makes you think of the better times behind and the better times ahead.

TV On The Radio

This is TVOTR's first EP and to me their best out put to date, it came out in 2003 and has the song Staring At The Sun which got a ton of play on MTV2 at the time and is a really great video, simple but so fitting. Not to say that I don't like their newer stuff because I enjoy everything they have done for the most part but something about this record is so dark and raw, they could of put out all crap after this and I would still love them.

Samurai Champloo

I used to really love this show, I was never really one for anime but I am a sucker for Samurai flicks and this show really managed to bring a fresh take on such a classic genre. One of the other amazing things about this show was the music, instrumental hip hop tracks made up the most of it but they also dabbled in many other genres like trip hop, downtempo and nu-jazz to name a few. Anyway here are all soundtracks from the show, I haven't listened to all the disks yet but Nujabes made a ton of these tracks so I am sure they are great and can't wait to check each one out. Do yourself a favor and grab these, they're perfect for a lazy afternoon or after a hard day when you just want to sit back and burn the day away.

It was hard to choose just one track to give a little preview because they are all so unique and great.

So I just got an email today from my previous boss and they are asking me to come back to work for 2 weeks to help out with some stuff. Its strange because well, they laid me off!! I almost don't want to go back since its just temporary and I was getting used to having the time off but I could really use the money. Anyway, to the point! for the next two weeks things might be moving a little slower here as I won't have the time to listen to as much stuff but don't worry I have some tunes jammed up my pants leg that I have been meaning to post. So while it will slow down a bit I'm still gonna update every day but it might just be one album a day or so. Quality will not decline though as I care more about this blog than I do my job but I dropped my camera today and broke the lens so I have to get some scratch together to buy a new one. Also soon I am going to start posting some artwork and movies that I really enjoy and if you have any artwork that you yourself made and would like me to showcase here I would really enjoy doing so, just send me an email Lakai2788@hotmail.com

Dirty Projectors - Ascending Melody 7"

This 7" release is being given away as mp3's for free! these are songs that were cut from Bitte Orca which was by far one of the better albums to come out last year but don't let the fact that they were cut fool you. They are playing The Allen Room at Lincoln Center on Feb 19th, so if your in the city go check it out because they really kill it live. Also when you download this, you are automatically entered into a contest to win the physical copy, 20 people will be chosen.

Bullion

"‘Say Goodbye To What’ is hook-laden psychedelic funk, a pop song brimming with intricacies and a beautifully-skewed production approach. It may well be the strangest singalong track of the year.

Flipside ‘Crazy Over You’ is a melancholic headnodder, drifting through the speakers with a lovelorn grace while pummelling you with the bottom end.

The life of the romantic is not always an easy one."
