I have eventually landed on the side of posting it because I think that like me once you here it you will order it and I really encourage you to because this is one of those albums where I think we want the artists to know that the work is really appreciated. Memory Tapes - 2/20/2010

So this past Saturday I got up with some friends and we made the trek into Manhattan to catch the free Memory Tapes show at Tribeca Grand. It was all of our first times catching a show there so we weren't really sure of what to expect but the place was way swanky, I felt a bit under dressed at first haha. The night gets a bit hazy from this moment because we got there early due to the enticing idea of the open vodka bar so the first hour was spent double fisting vodka cranberries while Minimal Wave was spinning some really great records, non of which I knew but were awesome none the less. So after about two hours or so Memory Tapes finally came on, their set up which I had been really curious to see was drums and guitar and then the rest of the sounds were pre recorded. One thing that was a bit disappointing was they only played for about 30 min and there was no encore. I know they just played the night before, it was free and they don't have much material to work with so they may have just not wanted to do any repeats but I can't say I wasn't a bit let down. The 30 min that they did play though were very enjoyable, they nailed all the songs and having crisp guitar and drums blasting in the small room really got into the crowds bones and despite being a predominantly hipster crowd everyone was dancing and going nuts, all on the same page. Also and I could be wrong here do to an overactive consumption of vodka but it seemed as if some of the songs were missing parts or just reworked not to say any of the songs sounded bad just different at times if only for a moment. Sorry if that review is a bit lacking, after memory tapes left the stage we wandered over to a random costume party in a near by Jewish Center. They had cheap beers and welcomed us with open arms or tentacles into their psychedelic freak fest that unfortunately ended soon after we arrived, so we feasted on the cheap beers while we still good. Then we head over to some place on Orchard St. where we had some acquaintances spinning electro/house/disco into the wee hours of the morn with a fairly open dance floor for us to take over. All in all a good night even if I did spend all of Sunday vomiting, surprisingly though not due to drinking so much the prior night, I was legitimately sick as it only it hit me later in the day.

Recently came across this wonderful lazy, hazy, album full of really well crafted songs, he's based out of Toronto and is giving this album out to all of us for free so be sure to check it out! It starts off with mostly ambient tracks but around "New Panic Cure" more structured songs start to appear.

Four Tet @ Le Poisson Rouge 2/17

Four Tet absolutely killed it last night and put on a phenomenal show which is by far the best I have seen all year so far and will definitely be hard to top. He did a live set playing only his own material but reworking and mixing the tracks on the fly so he was really able to work the crowd into this frenzied beast and pretty much had us all eating out of his hand by the end of the night, when he finished people went fucking nuts. Amazing show, I was only able to take a few shitty pics cause I was really into the show and its hard to keep a steady hand in the middle of the crowd.

Thieves Like Us - Never Known Love

New track by Thieves Like Us! I'm really digging it so far, their first album had a few good tracks on it but it was mostly kinda strange with really abstract lyrical delivery and a lot of the songs I had wished went more in the directions of this one. This has a really nice, warm, synth-pop vibe that floats it through your ears and the video is really weird ta boot, love it.

Ok, here is the deal, Google is cracking down on a lot of their blogs but I think that I will be ok as I try and post mostly somewhat obscure music. Also the artists that I post who don't want to be shared usually just email me instead of actually reporting me which I really appreciate it. The thing is though I just really fucking love music and want more people to know about the bands I love which I would imagine is in the artists interest, maybe though I underestimate the population of people like me who still buy vinyl and see live shows but I don't think so.

So, this isn't a very new mixtape; !if you have this already turn back now.But!!!! If you are like me and tend to love very low washed out music this is a really wonderful mix that needs to be added to the sounds entered into your ears. By that I mean to relate it to a conch shell, if by some strange force of nature my soul and body was transformed into a shell this is what I would love for people to hear when they put me to their ear. If everything prior to this sentence is a bit illegible or incoherent you can attribute it to me being a bit drunk but don't let that fact dissuade you from downloading this mix as its wonderful, truly wonderful.
